Nanay
My mom falls asleep (all the time) with her reading glasses on. This is one of the habits she was not able to take out of her system and one of the things we have to watch out for. She takes care of all of us for the longest time. Maybe its her own way of telling us that she needs us to take care of her as well. I just love my Nanay :)
Food Trip: Street Food
Saturday afternoon is usually "bonding time" for me and Jem. Last week we were in Quezon Province with some of our relatives. Pacific ocean, some rice fields and the Sierra Made mountain is hard to beat so we actually talked the whole morning on where to go and what to do. Mall is out of the question, it's too late to go to Makiling and too early for Karaoke. Since both of us are starving, we decided to just buy something to eat. We ended up eating some of our favorite street food.
Puto Bumbong
Made from purple-colored ground rice, steamed and served with grated coconut, sugar and butter. This Filipino food is closely associated with Misa de Galo (simbang gabi) and is one of the best things about Christmas. Aside from the gifts, Puto Bumbong is one of the reasons I love Christmas. However, you can now buy it all year round. **Sigh**
Siomai
Pork siomai, beef siomai, shrimp siomai or a combination of the three, steamed and then dipped in soy sauce and calamansi. Most Pinoys just love siomai. Of Chinese origin, siomai is one of the food you can easily find in every street corner. Some people eat siomai with rice but I like to eat it is as it is.
Tokneneng
Warning to the public: These babies could kill and should be taken in moderation. Had a first hand experience on how deadly it is. My blood pressure shoot up after eating 10 of those. Cant help it though - they're sooooo freakin' good!
Tukneneng are quail eggs coated with batter and then fried. Best with spicy vinegar. The bigger version (made from Chicken eggs) is called Kwek-kwek.
