Cozy, intimate, unassuming, elegantly furnished with that sense of rustic atmosphere that only an old house can provide. Lolo Dad’s Cafe was built on the old Ayuyao home and the name sake of family’s patriarch, Conrado “Lolo Dad” Ayuyao. The house has been in Malate since 1941 and was converted into a restaurant which opened in February 14, 2000. The restaurant still bore traces of wartime scars such as bullet holes which makes it a historical place as well. Lolo Dad’s seating capacity is limited but being able to watch the chefs at work is a treat in itself.
The menu is not thick as a bible which only proves that they are really focused on what they are good at. Lolo Dad’s is famous for its Foie Gras, pan-fried with bouquet of Mesclun greens and wine poached pear. There is also the Rack of Lamb and its best seller – the Chilean Seabass.
Dining at Lolo Dad’s is definitely an experience, a bit expensive, but still an experience nonetheless. Rest assured that you are getting your money’s worth and a return trip will be in order in no time. My only complaint: parking’s a bitch! But hey, so’s with most of Manila’s restaurants on a Friday night.
